(Hong Kong – 19 Oct 2017) – Leading kitchen and bathroom brand KOHLER, which was established in 1974, has long been committed to supporting the talents of emerging artists through its Arts/Industry program that has nurtured the careers of more than 500 creatives since its inception. Working with a range of materials, including ceramics, cast iron, enamel and brass, as well as other artistic mediums, the collaboration between KOHLER and the artists promote the integration of aesthetics and practicality. To help develop this creative concept all over the world, KOHLER has invited 13 emerging artists of different nationalities to join the KOHLER Bold Art 2017 Art Tour, connecting the core values of the brand to cultures across the globe and conveying the vision – Life is an art and art can enrich life.
Demonstrating creative multiculturalism, sharing the spirit of Bold. Art.
From November 3rd to 12th , KOHLER Bold. Art. Exhibition 2017 will be on display at the Elements’ Water Zone luxury mall. Celebrating the theme of ‘multiculturalism’, 13 artists from the Asia Pacific region and the Middle East have been invited to explore changes in urban environments, economic development and other social issues through the framework of their own personal and cultural context to showcase the multi-faceted characteristics and artistic responses of the regions they represent. The exhibition assembles works created by the 13 artists around this theme and brings them to life, breaking down the barriers between art and its viewer to promote communication between people, and, at the same time, moving them and prompting dialogue and discussion.
As a place where communities and cultures from all over the world convene, Hong Kong is the ideal location for this exhibition, which embodies the harmonious coexistence of different groups through distinctive artistic symbols and abstract expressions. The works also reflect the influence of multiculturalism in various countries and express views and feelings on the topic, and are displayed among KOHLER’s innovative bathroom products, perfectly demonstrating the brand’s attitude toward art, technology and life on a broader perspective.
Create a multicultural melting pot –break down distances
The Hong Kong representative of this year’s Bold Art Exhibition, Yiu Chun Wah, believes that multiculturalism can bond people of different nationalities and backgrounds. His artwork, Straight Hook Straight, was inspired by the first move he learned in Muay Thai. While learning Muay Thai, he observed that language barriers can create a distance between people, but these barriers can be broken down by kicking or punching movements. Yiu, who majored in ceramics, believes that art has the same power to break down barriers. In his art piece, he used local earth and discarded clay to create a new form, and crafted fissures through dehydrating of the earth, all of which is symbolic of Hong Kong as a multicultural city that brings together diverse cultures.
